A man in 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a ‘kind and joyful’ woman following the horrific incident in Norwich, which has left the community numb with shock
A mum of four was found with her throat cut outside her home over the weekend has been named locally as “bubbly” church goer Tania Williams.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene in Thorpe St Andrew near Norwich at 11.45pm on Saturday night following reports of a woman injured in the street. Sadly, Tania was pronounced dead on the scene.
A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of murder in Dereham Road during the early hours of Sunday, where he remains in police custody.
Detectives applied to Norwich Magistrates’ Court for a warrant of further detention on Monday, which will allow them up to 30 more hours to quiz him.
A further statement from the cops said a post-mortem examination found the cause of death was hypovolemic shock due to blood loss from a wound to the neck.
While Tania was named in local newspaper reports, the force added that a formal identification is yet to take place and police have not confirmed her identity.
DI Sam Pontin said: “We must remember that at the heart of this investigation is a family who have suffered the devastating loss of a loved one.”
Neighbours reportedly heard “high-pitched” screams on the night of the killing before going outside to investigate. One local told the Daily Mail: “I came out and heard my neighbour say call 999. I was standing on the phone with 999 and I was quite shaky.”
They added: “It’s a shock to my system – you never would have thought it would have happened on your doorstep.”
Elsewhere, tributes have poured in for Tania, who lived in the cul-de-sac for 10 years, and is thought to have been heavily involved in the church community.
The Parish Church of Thorpe St Andrew said in a statement: “She was a true evangelist of the gospel, encouraging and bringing others to faith with her uniquely colourful, kind and joyful persona.
“She was herself formally confirmed within the Church of England last Easter. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.” While St Andrew’s flag flying from the church was lowered to half-mast and a large candle lit inside the church.
