Loch Ness Monster beneath menace as locals begin petition towards ‘aggressive industrialisation’

Several planning applications have been submitted for developments at Loch Ness, including pumping stations, wind farms and telecoms towers, which residents are concerned will ‘irreversibly degrade’ the area

Plans to build on the world famous Loch Ness faces monster opposition from furious locals – who fear Nessie may be scared off by it.

Locals say the beauty spot is “under threat from aggressive industrialisation” after several planning applications were submitted for pumping stations, wind farms and telecoms towers.

Angry locals have banded together to form a group called Save Loch Ness and its support is growing. The group have launched a petition and website dedicated to their cause.

A statement on the website reads: “Many of us are blessed to be surrounded by the sweeping beauty and timeless mystery of the Loch Ness created long, long ago by “The Cailleach” – Scotland’s Winter Goddess.

“Loch Ness is a cherished symbol of our indigenous cultural heritage, a sacred land that holds the whispers of our ancestors and the stories of the generations who came before us.”

The group believes the development plans will interrupt the integrity and sanctity of the Loch. It added: “Disturbingly, the integrity and sanctity of this beloved area are now under threat from aggressive industrialisation…

“We face the devastating prospect of this rural haven [being turned] into something entirely foreign to those who love and depend upon it. Plans include the construction of three new huge Pump Storage Hydro facilities.

“All this will inevitably lead to irreversible environmental degradation, habitat destruction, and the loss of an irreplaceable part of our cultural heritage, deeply loved globally.”

“We must act now to preserve this land not just for ourselves, but for the future generations who should have the same opportunity to experience its magic and tranquility.”

The statement added: “This is a call to action for decision makers, legislators, environmental organisations, and concerned citizens around the world to come together to protect Loch Ness and our Highlands extending across our wider Celtic lands.

“We need legal protections and local sustainable economic strategies that honour both nature and heritage rather than erode them.”

The petition was initiated on Monday 12 January and by Wednesday, it had already amassed 630 signatures. The Save Loch Ness group further commented: “The level of information presented by GEE (Glen Earrach Energy) can seem bewildering.”

The Daily Star previously reported that experts warned the planned building work at Loch Ness will kill our chances of finding Nessie because the long-necked monster will be too scared to rear her head.

Locals say the beauty spot is “under threat from aggressive industrialisation” with wind farms and three huge water pumping stations in the pipeline. It comes after a Nessie hunter shared the ‘best images yet’ of the elusive beast.
