Former Premier League s***home leaves followers gobsmacked with unrecognisable new look

A former Premier League star left fans baffled over his dramatic new look

Neal Maupay’s jaw-dropping makeover has left fans gobsmacked, barely recognising the former Everton forward.

The ex-Toffee joined the Merseyside club in 2022 but his stint was less than stellar, netting just one goal in 32 appearances. After a brief spell back at Brentford, he was loaned out to Marseille in 2024, and it was during this return to his homeland that Maupay seemed to embrace a bit of a bad boy image.

When the loan move to the French heavyweights was announced on social media, the 29-year-old reacted with a post featuring the iconic prison break scene from The Shawshank Redemption. With over three million views, it hinted at his feeling of being shackled at Goodison Park.

His time at Marseille came with a compulsory buy clause, but after only three outings this season, he’s since packed his bags for Sevilla earlier this week.

Yet, it was Maupay’s headline-grabbing new look, not his footballing prowess, that caught attention before his Spanish switch. In a TikTok video shared by Marseille’s social media squad earlier this month, they quizzed the team about their predictions for the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal.

When stepping onto the training pitch, Maupay’s new curly hairdo went viral, marking a drastic change from his usual shaved head. However, his impressive hair growth is unlikely to win over Everton fans who have long held a grudge against him.

He once addressed his decision to post the jailbreak reference on social media, insisting he did nothing wrong. He explained: “I consider myself a normal person. If everyone can tweet, so can I.

“I published a funny video as my situation at Everton was known… I wanted to leave and they didn’t want to keep me. So the video was to say that I was relieved to leave the club!”

Even during his loan stint at Marseille, Maupay took a swipe at his former club after a 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in December 2024. Posting on X, Maupay wrote: “Whenever I’m having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile.”
