Salford Subway terror as ‘gunman’ bursts in and threatens employees earlier than fleeing
Police say a man armed with a gun went into the sandwich shop in Ellesmere Retail Park in Walkden and threatened staff while demanding money – officers are now hunting for him
A man armed with a gun burst into a Manchester sandwich shop and subjected staff to a terrifying raid. Police say the incident happened at the Subway branch in Salford.
Officers raced to Ellesmere Retail Park in Walkden last night (Saturday, January 31) after the incident was reported. It is believed the suspect arrived in a small, black vehicle between 8.25pm and 8.35pm.
“He then produced what appears to be a gun and fled with a small amount of cash,” Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed in a statement.
An inquiry is now under way following the ‘extremely rare’ and ‘concerning’ attack, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Patrols are being increased in the vicinity. Officers are also urging any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
The man is described as approximately 6ft tall and wore a mask, a black hooded jacket, black trousers and trainers, GMP revealed. As part of their appeal they have issued a CCTV image.
Detective Inspector Louise Haslam, of Swinton CID, said: “While this will be worrying and concerning, this type of incident is extremely rare in Greater Manchester.
“We will have extra officers in the area today and the next couple of days as we continue our investigation and provide a reassuring presence.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage to please contact us.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact GMP either through their website or by dialling 101 and quoting log number 3045 of 31/01/26. Alternatively, you can ring the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
“Always call 999 in an emergency.”
