Bad Bunny hauled from halftime stage by safety after anti-Trump Super Bowl LX stunt

Things took a bizarre turn in the final moments of his performance, with security sweeping in to rush the bewildered-looking Grammy Award winner away from the stage

Super Bowl fans from around the world were left stunned after Bad Bunny was seemingly rushed off the stage in the dying moments of his halftime performance.

The Puerto Rican singer and rapper – real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – wowed fans in the San Francisco stadium and around the world on Sunday, February 8 with a high-energy 13-minute show entirely in Spanish. During his halftime performance he was joined by a string of famous faces such as Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal, rapper Cardi B, and Fantastic Four actor Jessica Alba.

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted the stars having a bit of a knees-up on Bunny’s party-themed “casita” stage, blending (albeit only partially) in with the other background actors and dancers on the stage.

The halftime performance also featured surprise guests Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, with Gaga belting out her track “Die With a Smile” as a real-life couple tied the knot on stage.

But things took a bizarre turn in the final moments as security stepped in and swept the Grammy Award-winning singer away from the stage. His microphone cut out mid-word, he ripped out his earpiece, and the 31-year-old looked visibly confused as he was pulled away by a number of burly men on high alert.

The abrupt end to what had been a broadly positively received halftime performance – except for US president Donald Trump – left fans fearing something had gone horribly, horribly wrong.

One viewer wrote: “The end of the halftime show was kind of weird like something went wrong and Bad Bunny was being rushed off… he was bumping into people that didn’t look like it was on purpose and a security guy was seen, and Bad Bunny started ripping off his microphone and turning around. Pretty strange. Might be nothing, but kinda odd for an ending for a halftime show.”

A second added :”Something didn’t seem right at the end of halftime. Why were they rushing Bad Bunny off like it was a security issue.” A third agreed: “This poor halftime show security guy who got between Bad Bunny and the camera,” as a fourth chipped in with: “Security got in the middle of Bad Bunny’s shot.”

The jarring end to his set came moments after Bad Bunny shared a powerful message about unity, holding up an American football emblazoned the only English words used throughout his performance: “Together, we are America.” Behind him, a massive banner read: “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

Viewers quickly branded the message a swipe at Donald Trump — and, likely, so did the US President, who also took to social media to share his thoughts… and he did not hold back. Trump blasted the performance on Truth Social, writing: “The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.”

He continued: “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children. This ‘Show’ is just a slap in the face to our Country.”

Trump also attacked the NFL, adding: “There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show… And by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

With fans confused, Trump furious, and security stepping in, Bad Bunny’s halftime show has gone down as one of the most dramatic — and controversial — Super Bowl performances ever.
