Girlfriend of Brit preventing for all times in Thailand offers replace after crash horror

21-year-old Zak Forsyth from Huyton, Merseyside is in a coma in intensive care after a scooter and car collision left him with brain injuries and multiple fractures

The family of a man battling for his life in Thailand have provided a fresh update on his condition. Amy Elkin, has revealed that her 21-year-old boyfriend, Zak Forsyth was sober and riding a scooter when it crashed into a car last week.

The motorist transported him to hospital, but Zak has sustained severe and potentially life-altering injuries. Zak, from Huyton, Mereseyside in a coma in intensive care. As he lacked medical or travel insurance, all hospital and treatment expenses must be met by his family.

Amy, who jetted out to Thailand on Monday, February 9 to be by Zak’s side, had previously explained how officers turned up at her door to break the news of the crash after the British Embassy had identified Zak, reports the Liverpool Echo.

She said: “He was coming back from somewhere. His friends didn’t even know about it. He’s got a bleed on the brain, a broken nose, a broken jaw, broken ankle and broken arm.”

Amy confirmed Zak has yet to receive surgery and continues in intensive care, stating his family would require £30,000 to cover surgical costs alone. This sum has subsequently climbed to £60,000 owing to escalating medical bills.

In a latest update shared with the ECHO on Monday, Amy revealed Zak has been given fresh medication to help reduce brain swelling. Medical staff are presently unable to operate until his condition becomes stable, explaining surgery will only be considered if circumstances become a matter of “life and death”.

Amy revealed that Zak is battling two blood clots and bleeding on the brain. She explained: “We’re hoping the swelling goes down enough for the clots to heal on their own but nothing is certain. The doctor said he is still in a life threatening condition.

“The prices of the medical bills are rising each day with us having to pay £5,000 every seven days to keep him in ICU. We just need his page to be noticed as much as possible to be able to cover the medical bills.”

The family remain determined to eventually bring Zak back home to Merseyside. On the JustGiving page, Amy wrote: “Every little will help us. Thanks to everyone who’s helped so far. Get my boy home.”
