Arsenal information: Mikel Arteta eyes signing ‘incredible’ £48m star as switch talks scheduled

Arsenal are gearing up for a crucial week in the Premier League title race, but Mikel Arteta has already turned his attention to a blockbuster summer transfer window acquisition

Arsenal are bracing themselves for a crucial showdown against Brentford in the Premier League title chase.

The Gunners will have the upper hand, knowing how their title rivals fared in their midweek matches before taking on the Bees on Thursday. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently six points clear at the top, but Manchester City’s stunning win over Liverpool at the weekend stopped them from stretching that lead further.

Arsenal will face a Brentford side hell-bent on derailing their title dreams, with Keith Andrews’ men chasing their own European qualification ambitions. As the Gunners aim to end their trophy drought, there’s been plenty of talk about how they plan to beef up their squad in the summer transfer window. Here’s all the latest news from the Emirates.

Ethan Nwaneri worry

Ethan Nwaneri’s loan stint at Marseille got off to a dream start, but things have quickly taken a turn for the worse after he was yanked off at half-time in the club’s 5-0 hammering by Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

The 18-year-old made the switch to France in search of regular game time, but has now been subbed off at the break in the team’s last two outings, reports Football London.

Boss Roberto De Zerbi has insisted the decision to bring Nwaneri in on loan was for the player’s own benefit. However, claims from L’Equipe hint that all is not well behind the scenes at Marseille, with squad morale slumping in recent months.

Reports say players are fed up with the tough conditions and baffled by some of De Zerbi’s calls, raising concerns Nwaneri may have arrived at a tough time.

Now RMC Sport says De Zerbi is taking a hard look at his own part in the situation. Meanwhile, Nwaneri will be knuckling down to learn from the challenges he faced at Arsenal and prove himself away from the Emirates.

‘Fantastic forward’

Arsenal are said to be leading the race to sign a “fantastic” forward this summer who Mikel Arteta believes would be the ideal fit in his system.

According to reports in Spain, Arsenal are chasing AC Milan star and former Chelsea man Christian Pulisic. Fichajes claim that Arteta thinks the American winger would be an astute addition, with the 27-year-old future at the San Siro up in the air.

That’s because there has been no progress in negotiations over a new contract for him in Serie A. His contract runs out at the end of next season and the Gunners are thought to have the ‘financial resources’ required to secure his signature.

Lauded as “fantastic” by former manager Paulo Fonseca, he has 10 goals in 20 games for Milan this campaign and 42 strikes in 120 outings overall.

He also registered 26 goals and 21 assists in 145 matches across all appearances for Chelsea, having been signed from Borussia Dortmund for £57m in 2019, before struggling for consistency at Stamford Bridge and being offloaded for a cut-price £20m.

It is believed that an offer of around £48m would be enough to tempt the Serie A side into selling.

Arsenal loan star Fabio Vieira will be the focus of upcoming talks about his future. The 25-year-old is currently shining on loan at Hamburg, bagging two goals and laying on four more in his 15 appearances for the newly-promoted Bundesliga outfit.

Vieira has one year left on his Gunners deal after the season, having spent two years on loan following his initial stint with Porto. His loan deal to Hamburg included a £17million buy option.

These talks are set to take place around April or May, and they might reach a final decision about signing him for good.

According to these claims, Hamburg is finding it tough to match the buy clause, especially since they’re merely five points ahead of the relegation zone. Still, changing the fee when negotiating the transfer hasn’t been entirely ruled out just yet.
