‘Incredible Hulk’ smashed lady’s head in opposition to wall and lined wounds with sellotape
Dad, Andrew Gray, 43 slammed a woman’s head against walls and stamped on her face after a vodka binge – he then used sellotape to cover her wounds rather than taking her to hospital
A booze-fuelled man dubbed “The Incredible Hulk” smashed his victim’s head into a wall and stamped on her face. Andrew Gray, 43, then refused to take the woman to hospital, instead opting to cover her wounds with Sellotape and ordering her not to tell anyone about the incident.
A month later, the Nottingham father-of-two attacked the same woman again, kicking her in the ribs and punching her in the face after consuming vodka, before fleeing the scene.
At the time of the attacks, Gray had recently been released from a six-year prison sentence for a robbery during which he threatened a woman with a machete in her own home whilst her young child was present.
Judge Philip Head sentenced Gray to two years and nine months in prison, stating: “It is clear that most, if not all of your violence on your record is due to your alcohol abuse.”
He added: “This was dreadful violence when she took a chance on you and gave you a roof over your head and took you in when you had been released from prison.”
The judge further noted: “What you then did to her was a gross abuse of her hospitality and generosity.”, reports Nottinghamshire Live.
Prosecutor David Allan detailed how the first assault occurred at the victim’s Nottingham home on 30 May last year. He explained that an argument ensued when the victim returned home from her father’s memorial service with friends, leading to the defendant following her upstairs and attacking her.
Mr Allan stated: “She said he grabbed her by the hair pulling her around and smashed her into the walls. She said he pushed her to the floor and stamped on her ribs and face and that she lost consciousness.
“He then refused to let her go to hospital and told her not to tell her friend about the reason for her appearance.”
The prosecutor revealed that a month later, on June 30 last year, the couple had another row after drinking where he “kicked her several times to the stomach and kicked her to the face”.
He continued: “In her victim impact statement she describes having constant nightmares to the point she did not want to go to sleep saying he was ‘like the Incredible Hulk’ and that she was scared.
“She said she is currently working with Nottingham City Council to find her somewhere to stay where she will be safe.”
Gray, of Abercarn Way, Bulwell, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault and has 45 previous convictions on his record.
These include the machete robbery from 2018 and two other domestic violence incidents. Lucky Thandi, defending, said her client has been in custody for the past eight months.
She added: “There is plainly a very different side to him. He has, quite frankly, had a problem with alcohol for a long time.
“He has two grown-up children of his own and a supportive family and friends around him. What holds him back is his behaviour and only he can change that.”
In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a three-and-a-half-year restraining order on Gray.
