The PDC have confirmed Michael van Gerwen has withdrawn from night three of Premier League darts in Glasgow due to illness – with Luke Littler receiving a bye
Michael van Gerwen has withdrawn from Premier League darts night three in Glasgow, a statement has confirmed.
PDC said: “Michael van Gerwen has withdrawn from Thursday’s BetMGM Premier League action in Glasgow due to illness. The Dutchman had been hoping to continue his terrific start to the new season, after winning Night One in Newcastle before finishing runner-up to Gerwyn Price on Night Two in Antwerp.
“However, the seven-time Premier League champion has been ruled out of Night Three at the OVO Hydro tonight due to a medical issue. Van Gerwen’s scheduled quarter-final opponent, Luke Littler, subsequently receives a Bye through to the semi-finals under tournament rules, taking two league points and +1 leg difference.

“Van Gerwen receives no league points and -6 leg difference.”
Luke Littler will now receive a bye into the semi-finals, after a tough start to the Premier League campaign Littler, 19, was beaten in the first round by Gian van Veen in Newcastle, before he was dumped out in the semi-finals last week.
Littler will now meet either Jonny Clayton or Gerwyn Price. Van Gerwen’s fellow Dutchman Vincent van der Voort revealed on the Darts Draait Door podcast that his friend has “picked something up” and is on antibiotics.

He revealed: “Unfortunately, we still don’t know for sure if Michael will play. He’s picked something up and is on antibiotics. I can’t say yet that he’ll be there. We’ll have to wait and see over the coming days.
“Tests are being done and I hope they find it quickly so it can be resolved. There’s a chance he won’t be there.
“Everything is uncertain for now. Every time you think it’s turning the right way, something happens again.”
