Channel 4‘s Secret Genius tests participants’ untapped intelligence – but can you work out the solution to this tricky puzzle?
Fronted by Alan Carr and Susie Dent, the programme features four regional heats spanning different areas of the UK.
The six-part series sees 12 contestants from each region whittled down to three, who advance to the further stages.
Those remaining go to genius headquarters, which is where the games are held.
Meanwhile, show creators have devised a puzzle that only those with top level verbal reasoning could solve.
It reads: ‘A word can be placed in the brackets that has the same meaning as the words outside. What is it? Each dash represents a letter.

An insider from the show said: ‘Very few people will be able too solve this and if you can you’re probably a genius.’
Can you work it out?
The correct answer is ‘Abstract’.
Furthermore, the six-part competition series first launched on our screens on February 1.
It comes as presenter Alan, 49, revealed he accidentally exposed his Celebrity Traitors win while filming Secret Genius.
Eleven million viewers watched last year as the treacherous funnyman beat faithfuls Joe Marler, 35, Nick Mohammed, 45, and David Olusoga, 55, to claim the £87,500 prize pot for charity.
But while everyone is sworn to secrecy after filming wraps ahead of transmission, Alan has confessed he only managed to keep the secret for 12 hours.
Speaking on Scott Mills’ BBC Radio 2 show, he explained how he accidentally let the cat out of the bag after heading to film new Channel 4 show Secret Genius, straight after his return from the Scottish highlands.
Alan laughed: ‘The cameraman goes: “Congratulations” and I go: “How did you know I won?” He said “I didn’t”‘.
It comes as Alan – who began filming Secret Genius one day after wrapping Celebrity Traitors – revealed he exposed the secret early
‘So I told them within 12 hours that I had won The Traitors.’
Alan said after realising what he had done, tried his best to backtrack and told the camera operator he was ‘joking and teasing’
‘I went: “haha, got you!” I had to backtrack, because you can’t tell anything. But I did well, and I didn’t want to spoil it’.
And while speaking at a Q&A for Secret Genius, Alan shut downs speculation that he could be hosting Strictly Come Dancing.
While acknowledging it would be ‘an honour’, he explained: ‘I just think I like watching the show, I don’t love it.
‘I think it would be better for someone who really, really loves it, you know?
‘And they asked me all the time to be on it and stuff.
‘I just think, wouldn’t it be great to get someone fresh, someone new.
‘That show is so adored and so loved. You want someone in there who’s like, “Yeah, this Paso Doble was…”. I don’t give a s**t.
‘Give it to someone else, yeah.’
Secret Genius airs on Channel 4 and is available to stream on channel4.com.
