Lecturer known as pupil ‘candy cheeks’ and tried to entice her with a Freddo bar

Coleg y Cymoedd lecturer Christopher Williams Davies sent inappropriate messages to two students calling one a ‘good girl’ and saying one made him ‘very hot under the collar’

A college lecturer called female students “sweet cheeks” and “good girl” in a string of inappropriate sexual messages. Christopher Williams Davies who worked as a lecturer at Coleg y Cymoedd even tried to lure one with a Freddo bar and admitted she was making him “very hot under the collar.”

A professional standards panel imposed an indefinite ban from the teaching register after finding his communications with two pupils were unsuitable, “sexual in nature” and constituted professional misconduct, reports Wales Online.

The Welsh college operates across four main campuses in Aberdare, Nantgarw, Rhondda, and Ystrad Mynach. During one exchange, Davies told a student, or someone he believed to be a student: “Nobody sees your phone though, right? Can’t even begin to say the trouble I’d be in if anyone else saw these messages,” the panel was told.

Amongst the messages, Davies also shared an image of a chocolate bar positioned on his lap and made remarks including:. ‘What’s it worth?, ‘Persuade me,’ ‘So what do I get? ‘You’re not trying very hard. You can’t want this Freddo that much…’ and ‘What could you give that you don’t have to buy?’

He also sent messages that said: ‘You didn’t show me the photos like you promised,’ ‘Why can’t I see them now? ‘Good girl’ and ‘Sweet cheeks.’

The panel established that Davies sent the messages between October 11, 2023, and November 22, 2023, and also presented the pupil, known only as Learner A to safeguard their anonymity, with a chocolate bar.

In a separate series of communications, he told a second pupil: “Could look at you all day ngl (not going to lie)” and stated “You’re making me very hot under the collar here”.

He also messaged the student, referenced solely as Learner B during the proceedings: “Wow you really are incredible” and “these pics are getting addictive”.

Davies subsequently appeared to become concerned and contacted Learner B stating: “Nobody sees your phone though, right? Can’t even begin to say the trouble I’d be in if anyone else saw these messages”, and: “Just realised this convo took place on a works platform”.

In a further message, within a sequence he sent to Learner B, Davies wrote: “You’re giving me very unprofessional thoughts again… You’re getting very good at doing that xx”.

The committee concluded that the communications were sexual in character and that they, alongside presenting Learner A with a chocolate bar, failed to uphold professional boundaries.

Publishing the conclusions online, the EWC stated the committee imposed a Prohibition Order, permanently striking Davies from the Register of Education Practitioners in the further education teacher category. The decision also stipulated that Davies could not apply for restoration to the Register of Education Practitioners for two years from the date of the hearing’s verdict.

If Davies fails to make a successful application for eligibility for restoration to the Register after 22 January 2028, he will remain indefinitely prohibited. He had the right to appeal to the High Court within 28 days of the hearing.
