Major UK enterprise enters liquidation after HMRC points ‘winding up’ order
Midland Skip Hire Limited, which traded from Bottesford near Bingham in Nottinghamshire for 24 years, has entered liquidation after HMRC secured a High Court winding-up order

A skip hire company that served the community for a quarter of a century has gone into liquidation. Midland Skip Hire Limited, which operated from Bottesford near Bingham, Nottinghamshire, for 24 years, has been issued with a winding-up order, initiated by HMRC.
The High Court sanctioned the closure of the waste management and skip rental business, which was established back in 2002.
Commissioners for HMRC had lodged the petition to close the company and sell its assets back in November. The firm is currently under the control of a receiver and the Government’s Insolvency Service is helping former employees to claim redundancy payments.
Midland Skip Hire’s financial accounts filed last summer for the year up to 30 June 2024, revealed the company had £3,079,867 in fixed assets, but had significant amounts due to creditors in the coming years.

Documents submitted to Companies House indicated that the firm had an average of 40 employees in 2024, up from 36 in 2023. It is not currently known how many staff have been made redundant as a result of the firm’s liquidation, according to Nottinghamshire Live.
Midland Skip Hire had branded itself as “one of the East Midlands’ premier skip hire companies” and boasted a track record of serving the towns of Bingham, Newark and Grantham along with their neighbouring areas.
“We provide a high quality service to both residential and commercial customers at competitive prices, offering a great range of waste management services,” states the firm’s website, which remains live.
“As a family run business we pride ourselves on offering low prices for a great service.
“We pride ourselves on offering low prices for a great service and we are located not far off the A52, making us available to our customers in Bingham, Newark, Grantham and the surrounding areas.”
