Milan tram crash leaves two useless and not less than 40 injured

A fatal tram derailment in central Milan has left two people dead and approximately 40 injured, officials said.

The incident occurred on Friday in Vittorio Veneto Street, a key downtown thoroughfare, when one of the city’s newest tram models left the tracks. The runaway tram then crashed into a shop window, according to Vittorio Di Giacomo, a spokesperson for local firefighters.

Emergency services swiftly responded, with 13 ambulances dispatched to the scene. Civil protection teams erected a tent to provide assistance to the injured.

Milan’s transport company, ATM, issued a statement expressing its profound shock at the accident. The company extended its condolences to all affected and confirmed it is collaborating with judicial authorities to determine the cause of the derailment.
