Glasgow Morrisons horror as rat noticed swinging from cage leaving shopper sickened

A shopper was left ‘sickened’ after spotting rats running about outside the entrance to Morrisons Daily in Nitshill, Glasgow, on Tuesday, February 24 – the store is now investigating

A shopper has been left feeling “sickened” after catching sight of rats darting about near the doorway of a Morrisons store. The footage, captured on Tuesday, February 24, seemingly shows a sizeable rat scaling a bin enclosure outside Morrisons Daily on Househillwood Road in Nitshill.

A second creature can be observed scampering along the footpath before slipping into the cage from beneath. The disturbing scene left the shopper feeling “sick” and declared it’s now grounds “not to shop” at that branch, reports Glasgow Live.

He explained: “They are running about outside of the shop doors, I seen two in the video but there could be loads more. To think we eat and drink stuff that rats could of ran over. It is well below standards.”

Morrisons has subsequently initiated an inquiry after being made aware of the situation earlier this week.

A representative for the retailer stated: “We treat food safety and hygiene very seriously. As soon as we became aware of an isolated issue outside Morrisons Daily Nitshill on Wednesday we took immediate action. We are urgently investigating this and are taking appropriate measures to manage the situation.”

This week, Glasgow Live disclosed that rats remain a persistent menace throughout the city’s streets, with the vermin population having rocketed for almost seven consecutive years.

A Freedom of Information Request (FOI) has exposed that in 2025, there were 12,155 reports of rats both within properties and on thoroughfares, rising from 10,341 in 2024.

The news comes after we reported how a customer was left horrified after spotting a mouse darting about inside a pillow bag at a Primark store. The rodent seemed to be stuck inside a £12 memory foam pillow at Primark’s flagship branch inBirmingham City Centre.

Giorgio, who captured the incident on camera, revealed he had notified staff following his disturbing find – and said they appeared as equally astonished.

The Italian, who currently resides in Moseley, expressed his bewilderment upon first witnessing the mouse moving within the sealed plastic wrapping.

He left the High Street shop feeling compelled to “wash everything” in future “even if it’s wrapped”, reports Birmingham Live.

“One more customer saw it and he laughed and walked away,” the shopper revealed.
