French President, Emmanuel Macron has announced he will order an increase in France’s nuclear warheads amid rising global tensions over the US attack on Iran

Emmanuel Macron has declared he will “order an increase in the number of nuclear warheads” held by France amidst escalating global tensions following the US assault on Iran.

“I have asked for an increase in the number of nuclear warheads,” proclaimed Emmanuel Macron, who nonetheless declined to provide “a precise number”.

“We will no longer communicate on the figures of our nuclear arsenal,” the head of state reiterated. “An upgrade of our arsenal is essential.”

In his speech, Macron warns that since the last speech in 2020, “our competitors have evolved, as have our partners,” and this requires a change in the French nuclear doctrine.

Macron said today that France will increase its number of nuclear warheads from the current level of below 300 which is the first time France increases its nuclear arsenal since 1992.
