BrewDog to close 38 bars throughout UK with 484 jobs misplaced – see the complete checklist

BrewDog will close 38 bars across the UK with hundreds of job losses after the sites were not included in a £33million rescue deal by US firm Tilray, according to administrators

Major pub chain BrewDog is set to shut 38 boozers across the country – causing 484 job losses.

The pub chain will shut the bars after they were not included in a £33million rescue package by American firm Tilray, according to administrators handling the Scottish brewery’s affairs. The closures will result in the loss of 484 jobs.

The Aberdeenshire-headquartered brewery and pub operator – which produces craft beers including Punk IPA and Elvis Juice – shuttered its establishments for the day on Monday while completing the sale proceedings. In February, advisers AlixPartners were brought in to manage the disposal process.

The BBC reported that BrewDog’s chief executive James Taylor contacted employees via email on Monday. The message said: “We appreciate this is an unsettling time for everyone and we want to ensure that all colleagues have the opportunity to hear directly from us about what happens next.

“We will therefore be holding a series of company-wide All Hands calls tomorrow (Monday) for all employees across the whole business. These will be scheduled tomorrow.

“To enable everyone to attend, and to comply with licensing issues arising from an anticipated change of ownership, we have taken the decision that none of our bars will open tomorrow (Monday). All sites will remain closed for the day.

“We have also cancelled food and beer deliveries, as well as customer bookings, for that day.”

BrewDog, established by pals James Watt and Martin Dickie in 2007, runs approximately 100 bars globally, in addition to four breweries, the Mirror reports. The firm declined to comment on Monday.
