Donald Trump’s unhinged 24 hours as he says a really sweaty Jake Paul ought to run for workplace
Formerly popular YouTuber-turned bang average boxer and Trump supporter Jake Paul was at what became an increasingly surreal rally in Kentucky
Donald Trump’s “affordability tour” took a surreal turn tonight in Kentucky, as the US President whooped up his fans to cheer for the Iran war that’s sending their gas prices through the roof.
The US President spent far more time wanging on about the war, Gavin Newsom and his feud with Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican House member who pressed for the release of the Epstein files than he did the cost of living.
Formerly popular YouTuber turned bang average boxer and Trump supporter Jake Paul was at the speech, and got up on stage.
And then someone passed out in the crowd and Dr Oz helped her.
I wish I was making this up.
Meanwhile in Trumpworld
- Trump revealed the one thing he admires about Obama
- Someone fainted, Trump played a song, Dr Oz helped out
- Jake Paul was extremely sweaty
Here’s what you need to know.
1. Trump declares “we’ve won” Iran war
Trump did his very best Team America impression, almost singing “OPERATION EPIC FURY! Is that a great name? Well, it’s only good if you win, and we’ve won.”
He continued: “Let me tell you. We’ve won. You know, you never liked to say too early you won. We won.”
It’s unclear by what measure he declared victory, and there is no indication any change in American deployment is imminent.
But he sure did bang on about how AWESOME the operation’s name was.
“They gave me a list of names. ‘Sir, you can pick the name you’d like, sir.’ I said, the name of what? ‘The name of the attack! On Iran, sir.’ And they gave me like 20 names. And I’m like falling asleep. I didn’t like any of them. Then I see Epic Fury.”
2. The speech was interrupted by a medical emergency
Donald Trump’s rally speech in Kentucky was interrupted tonight, as a medical emergency unfolded immediately behind the US President.
An elderly Trump supporter standing on the podium behind Trump began to sway and looked unwell. Other supporters moved out of the way to allow her to brace herself on the barrier – but after a few moments she appeared to lose consciousness and was helped to the floor.
Oblivious to what was unfolding behind him, Trump continued his speech – in which he was at the time attacking California Governor Gavin Newsom – before being alerted to the situation by people shouting “medic, medic.”
Trump turned and saw what was happening and said: “Is there a doctor in the house please?” He told those rushing to the fan’s aide to “take your time….we have all the time. These people are great people. We have all the time.”
3. While the speech was paused, Trump asked for Ave Maria to be played. Then Dr Oz turned up
As medics arrived to assist, Trump added: “First responders are incredible, by the way.” He then said to the crowd: “Wanna hear a song? Let’s see if the people backstage are listening to me. How about “Ave Maria?”
TV doctor-turned Trump administration health official Dr Mehmet Oz was among those assisting the woman who collapsed.
“It’s Dr Oz, can you believe it?” Trump said as the crowd applauded. “Dr Oz! Wow, he’s a good doctor.”
4. He revealed the one thing about Obama that he admires
Trump revealed that the one thing he admired about Barack Obama “which was nothing really”, was the way he would “bob” down the stairs of Air Force One.
Trump even did a little impersonation of his predecessor bobbing down the stairs.
“You talk about unpresendential”, he said of a man physically able to walk down stairs without clinging on for dear life.
5. Jake Paul got up on stage and nobody really seemed to know who he was
Jake Paul, who started out as an edgy YouTuber and somehow became a well-paid but average boxer, was also there.
He got up on stage looking very sweaty. Either nobody knew who he was, or everyone in Kentucky hates him because the applause for him was pretty muted.
Trump promised to endorse Paul if he ever ran for political office. Because the year is 2026 and we exist in the worst timeline.
6. He had a lengthy pop at one of his own congressmen – who voted to release the Epstein files
Trump launched into a lengthy rant about Thomas Massie, a Republican member of the House of Representatives for Kentucky.
“We have to get rid of this loser,” Trump said. “He is disloyal to the Republican party, disloyal to the people of Kentucky and most importantly, disloyal to the United States of America”
Massie’s crime? He added his name to the petition forcing the release of the Epstein files.
7. Trump threatens Iran’s new Supreme Leader
Ahead of the rally, Trump issued a thinly-veiled threat against Iran’s new Supreme Leader – telling reporters: “We’ll see what happens to them”.
He dismissed the war as a “little excursion” for the US, which had been “easier” than anticipated.
And he played down skyrocketing fuel costs caused by the war, claiming oil prices would be “coming down” soon.
Iran this week named Mojtaba Khamenei as its new Supreme Leader after a US air strike killed his father, the late Ayatollah Ali Khameni.
Asked earlier whether he thought the US could declare a victory in the war with Khamenei remaining as Supreme Leader, Trump was unusually coy, saying he didn’t want to comment.
But later, during a factory tour in Cincinnati, Ohio, Trump issued a further threat to Iran’s leaders.
He said that the US had “knocked out twice their leadership” in Iran, and added: “Now they have a new group coming up. Let’s see what happens to them.”
“We did a little excursion,” Trump said. “We had to take a couple of weeks, a few weeks of excursion, but it’s been incredible, the military, the job they’re doing is incredible.
“I would say, to put it mildly, way ahead of schedule.”
He went on: “We’ve knocked out their Navy, their military in all forms. We’ve knocked out just about everything there is, including their leadership, twice.”
8. Mandelson touted US tech deal as his ‘personal pride and joy’
After being fired as our man in Washington last September, Peter Mandelson wrote a farewell email to British Embassy staff – and described the then-forthcoming tech deal between the UK and US as his “personal pride and joy which will help write the next chapter of the special relationship.”
A memorandum of understand on Tech Prosperity Deal deal, which was inked at Chequers during Trump’s State Visit to the UK the following week, set out the UK and US’ plans to “collaborate closely in the build-out of powerful AI infrastructure” and “promot[e] U.S. and UK AI exports to offer the full stack of chips, data centres, and models”.
Within a couple of months the deal was iced by the US as Trump tried to pressure the UK to give more ground on wider trade talks. But it was reportedly revived late last month.
God only knows what its status is now, given the breakdown in relations between Trump and Starmer.
But the tech justice non-profit Foxglove wants to know more about Mandelson’s involvement – especially given the links between his lobbying firm Global Counsel – in which he still held a stake until February this year – and AI tech giants like Palantir and OpenAI.
Donald Campbell, advocacy director at tech justice non-profit Foxglove said: “These documents raise yet more questions over the UK Government’s deals with Trump and his Big Tech allies – and the role played by Peter Mandelson in the agreement announced during Trump’s state visit last year.
“If Lord Mandelson, as his email suggests, played a key role in negotiating the UK-US tech deal, while continuing to hold a stake in a lobbying firm representing Palantir and OpenAI, it raises serious concerns over conflicts of interest.
“Yet, looking at the due diligence documents from the time of his appointment, references to either Palantir or OpenAI are strikingly absent.
“The UK Government must urgently set out what role the former Ambassador played in this deal, and how these conflicts were managed. Otherwise it will only further reinforce the impression that it is far too happy to have its priorities set by President Trump and his Big Tech billionaire cronies.”
