A 15-year-old footballer who died after collapsing during a match has been pictured for the first time – as tributes poured in for the young star. 

Goalkeeper Amelia Aplin passed away whilst playing for Oxford United in a fixture against Fulham at the club’s training centre in Horspath on Saturday. 

Tributes have poured in for the teenager with family members, friends and supporters laying flowers and scarves in her memory. 

A minute’s silence was also held at Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium last night prior to their 1-0 Championship win over Blackburn Rovers. 

One of side’s legendary players Peter Rhoades-Brown said Amelia was ‘a goalkeeper of immense promise’ who would be ‘greatly missed by everybody who knew her’.

‘Amelia was a teammate, a friend, a sister, a niece and a daughter. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her,’ he said in his tribute speech. 

Mr Rhoades-Brown added Amelia’s teammates and family ‘join us here on the pitch tonight as our football club comes together to pay our respects’.  

Oxford United captain Cameron Brannagan also paid tribute. He said: ‘She was very highly thought of in the club and we send all our love to her family and friends

‘We’ll do everything as a club to help the family.’

Amelia was a student at Aylesbury High School in Buckinghamshire and was also a talented swimmer. 

Her headmistress Marieke Forster said she was a ‘remarkable young woman who brought joy to everyone who knew her’.

‘She was a gifted athlete and a dedicated student, but more importantly, she was a friend to many and a vital part of our school,’ she added.

An Oxford United statement read: ‘The thoughts and sincere condolences from everyone at Oxford United are with Amelia’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.

‘We would like to place on record our appreciation for the efforts of the medical staff at both Oxford United and Fulham Football Club, along with the emergency services.

‘The Club will offer support to Amelia’s family, players, coaches and staff impacted by this tragic event.

‘We would ask that the family’s privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.’
