The adult model who was feared dead after a suspected “Dubai Porta Potty party” has stunned fans. After being found unconscious and horrifically injured on a Dubai roadside last year, Maria Kovalchuk has made a surprising return.
The 21-year-old has seemingly defied the odds, and has now stepped back into the public eye. Moreover, she reportedly recently announced she has travelled to Paris to pursue makeup studies, including masterclasses with Chanel and Bobbi Brown.
Her road to recovery has been anything but easy. Kovalchuk spent months in Norway, living in exile from war-torn Ukraine.
She reportedly underwent intensive rehabilitation and a total of 10 major surgeries, initially relying on a wheelchair.
Now, a year later, she is walking again. She told her followers on social media: “At first, I felt literally shattered, like a broken doll, and I could not imagine my future life at all.
“I kept wondering how I would live with all these injuries, with this scar, disfigured. How I would somehow go on with my life.
“But over time, my perception of the world began to change. I started paying attention to my inner self and realised that what matters most is your inner state – what you learn and what you feel.
“Of course, there were difficulties with this, too. But I managed thanks to the support of my loved ones and my friends.”
Kovalchuk, from Lviv, Ukraine, became the centre of an international scandal after surviving the brutal attack in Dubai last year. The adult star, known online as “Mary Lu”, was discovered unconscious and severely injured on a roadside in March 2025, 10 days after vanishing en route to a hotel party.
Kovalchuk, who now lives in Norway as a war refugee has been learning to walk again following her harrowing ordeal, which she claims involved torture and an attempted cover-up by Dubai authorities.
Her case has shone a spotlight on the shadowy world of so-called “Porta Potty parties”, notorious for luring models with promises of cash before subjecting them to shocking abuse.
This has prompted a human trafficking investigation by Ukrainian police.
