Michael Carrick exhibits true colors after controversial choice – ‘he is received one incorrect’

Michael Carrick was left furious after Manchester United’s draw with Bournemouth after he believed his side should have been awarded a penalty

A furious Michael Carrick pulled no punches after Manchester United were denied a spot-kick during their 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Friday evening.

The Red Devils were a goal to the good, thanks to Bruno Fernandes, when Amad was pulled down in the penalty area by Adrien Truffert. United were convinced it was a penalty, but the Cherries carried on playing.

And they took the ball down the other end of the pitch and levelled the game; United’s fury was only intensified when Bournemouth were then awarded a penalty when Harry Maguire, who was shown a red card, pulled back Evanilson.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Carrick fumed: “We should have had another penalty. Obviously, if you get one, you must get the other.

“It’s pretty much identical for me, two-hand grab. Either way, he’s got one wrong, but to give one and not give the other, I can’t get my head around it, I think it’s crazy. It’s a bit baffling, really.

“Because of that, they score and then it’s chaos after that, really. We should have had another penalty and the game would have been totally different.”

And his view was shared by club captain Fernandes: “I think we could have gone 2-0 up, and then we ended up conceding a goal, not getting a penalty and then we get a penalty against, where more or less it’s the same situation as Amad.

“One is rewarded as a penalty, the other one not. I know it’s difficult for the referee to give two penalties in the same game for the same team…

“But what I don’t understand is why VAR doesn’t get involved in that situation.

“Either one is a penalty and the other one too or none of them is a penalty.”
