Trump declares ceasefire in Iran as ‘instant’ opening of Strait of Hormuz

US President Trump has called a ‘double ceasefire’ for two weeks as long as the Strait of Hormuz is reopened to traffic following the chilling deadline he issued to send Iran ‘back to the stone age’

US president Trump has announced the ‘immediate reopening’ of the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire agreement.

Trump made the announcement that there will be a two week ceasefire between the US and Iran just before his chilling deadline in which he claimed his country would send Iran “back to the stone age”.

In a post on his social media site Tuesday evening, Trump said that could Iran agree “to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz” then he would “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.”

Since the outbreak of the war in February, Trump has made a series of deadlines threatening to escalate the conflict, to back off just before they expire.

In his latest threat on Tuesday he earlier claimed that a “whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran fails to meet his latest deadline.

His announcement this evening said that the decision was made after discussions with the leadership of Pakistan.

He said: “This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!”

He added: “We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate.
