Takeaway addict sheds six stone and saves £5,000 after ditching junk meals blowouts
Whitley Lloyd, 34, admits she was splurging up to £500-a-month on fast food after turning to comfort eating
A takeaway addict mum who shed almost six stone has revealed how she ditched four-a-week junk food blowouts – and is now more than £5,000 a year better off.
Whitley Lloyd, 34, from Brecon, admits she was splurging up to £500-a-month on fast food after turning to comfort eating following her nan’s death.
She said: “I didn’t realise how much it all added up.
“Looking back now, it’s shocking to think about how much money I was spending.
“I’d barely eat during the day, only to end up having takeaways and snacks late at night.
“I used to think takeaways were a treat, yet I found I wasn’t enjoying them anymore – they were making me feel poorly and giving me headaches.”
The turning point came when she saw a photo of herself at a family party and decided to join Slimming World.
At 5ft 3in, Whitley weighed 15st 9lbs when she signed up – and dropped 5lbs in her first week.
She said: “That first week I threw myself into the healthy eating plan.
“It was a huge moment for me.
“For the first time, I realised losing weight was possible.”
Since then, she’s swapped greasy takeaways for homemade “fakeaways” and budget-friendly meals.
She said: “I’ve only had four takeaways this year and I’m proud of the fantastic healthy meals I can cook.”
And despite the cost-of-living crunch, she insists healthy eating doesn’t have to break the bank.
She said: “I’ve lost weight by eating delicious, satisfying meals, saved money and discovered I’m a really good cook.”
Now a size 10, the mum-of-one says she’s fitter than ever – even completing Couch to 5k, a campaign to get people off the sofa and running long distances.
“I cried when I finished it,” she added. “I never believed I’d be able to do something like that.
“I’m happier, healthier and truly myself again. Slimming World didn’t just help me lose weight – it gave me back my spark, my confidence and control of my finances.”
It comes as six in 10 Brits admit splashing up to £50 a week on takeaways and high-fat convenience foods, Slimming World research shows.
Almost half reckon they’d save serious cash by cutting back – yet one in five still don’t feel confident cooking from scratch, the study found.
