Man Utd information: Transfer battle with Man City emerges as Marcus Rashford plea made

Manchester United were locked in a transfer battle with bitter local rivals Manchester City as Michael Carrick has been tipped to resolve a huge problem

Manchester United are on the brink of a Champions League return – yet there’s uncertainty over what the next season might entail.

Despite all the work Michael Carrick has done since stepping into Ruben Amorim’s shoes, it’s unclear who will be at the helm once this season concludes. Similar doubts surround several players at Old Trafford, not least Marcus Rashford. The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Barcelona, but there’s no assurance that he will make a permanent move there.

For now, the task falls to Carrick to guide the club back to Europe’s premier competition, a mission that continues with a challenging away match against Chelsea on Saturday. But before all that, Daily Star Sport brings you the latest headlines from the Theatre of Dreams.

Interest in JJ Gabriel

Despite being only 15-years-old – even younger than Arsenal’s Max Dowman – it’s already evident that Gabriel has a promising future ahead. That future will unfold at Old Trafford, following interest from Manchester City last summer, reports the Mirror.

According to the Telegraph, City launched a determined bid to lure Gabriel to make the move to the Etihad, with United reportedly even worrying at one point that they might lose him.

Their pursuit was based on a regulation that permits players at the conclusion of their U14 year to ‘give notice’ to depart one club, allowing them to de-register and subsequently join another outfit. Nevertheless, United succeeded in persuading the wonderkid to stay at United.

Marcus Rashford plea

Rashford disclosed at the conclusion of last year that he wishes to stay at Barcelona beyond his current loan arrangement. That prospect remains far from guaranteed – and United legend Bryan Robson believes Carrick can bring the England international back into the setup.

Speaking to Footy Accumulators, Robson said: “I stand by the idea that there’s something wrong if Marcus Rashford can’t enjoy his football at Manchester United. How you can’t enjoy your football at United is beyond me.

“He’s a dangerous player with great ability and pace, but maybe he fell out with Ruben Amorim and out of love with Amorim. If anybody can handle him, Michael Carrick is very good at that kind of thing.”
