Leicester police incident after ‘man falls from roof’ in ‘actually scary’ scenes

Leicestershire Police have placed a cordon on a residential street in Leicester after “scary” scenes saw a man being taken to hospital after a men fell from a roof

A major police presence has been seen on a residential street after reports of a break-in saw a man rushed to hospital after falling from a roof in Leicester.

Police said they received a call at 1.17am this morning (April 19) after reports of a break-in at a property in Tudor Road.

Officers were also told of an individual attempting to gain access to another property in the street. Leicestershire Police said officers quickly arrived at the location to find the man on the roof of a property.

According to reports, officers attempted to engage with the man for several minutes before he fell from the roof, police added.

The man sustained injuries to his arm and currently remains in hospital receiving treatment.

A cordon was put in place in Tudor Road this morning, with part of the street closed off while officers carried out enquiries at the scene.

Speaking to LeicestershireLive, a resident said he was very surprised to wake up to a huge police presence.

He said: “If you wake up and see your street closed off by police, it’s very surprising. I didn’t hear anything last night so I’m not sure what has happened.”

Ali Juma 47, who has lived on Tudor Road for nearly four years, said he thought the police incident was “really scary”.

He said: “We are all family around here, we support each other and everyone is nice. That’s why it’s really scary to see all the police as we don’t know what’s gone on. I mean at least the police are doing their investigation to find out what’s has happened.”

Anamaria Jacota, 40, who has been running a business in the area for the past 10 years, said: “Hopefully nobody has been injured. These are my neighbours, so I know people.” The neighbourhood is very nice, it used to be really bad, people know each around here.”

Police said the investigation remains at an early stage. No arrests have been made.

A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to police contact with the man.
