RAF Lakenheath lockdown as safety forces encompass car ‘attempting to enter’ base

A security incident is ongoing at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk after a person allegedly attempted to enter the airbase, home to the 48th Fighter Wing, without proper identification

An RAF airbase has been thrust into lockdown. Security personnel at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk swiftly responded just before 8am today following an alleged attempt by an individual to gain entry without the necessary “proper identification”.

A representative for the airbase, which houses the 48th Fighter Wing, informed EADT: “An individual attempted to enter RAF Lakenheath at Gate 2 without proper identification.

“The gate barriers were deployed and security forces personnel worked quickly to stop the vehicle from entering the installation.” The representative further confirmed that a person was apprehended by the Ministry of Defence police, reports the Mirror.

RAF Lakenheath serves as the largest US Air Force (USAF) operated base in the UK. It is the home of the 48th Fighter Wing, also known as the “Liberty Wing,” which operates F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft.
