Bolton cafe ‘stabbing’ as CCTV exhibits second ‘man carrying knife lunges at buyer’

A CCTV footage has captured the moment a man was allegedly stabbed at a Bolton café in the second of two random attacks that reportedly occurred within minutes.
The incident occurred at The Deli on Tonge Moor Road on Tuesday (April 21) . A video clip published on social media shows a man walking in holding a knife before he appears to lunge at a customer.
Screaming is heard from staff as the victim is seen getting up and starts trying to disarm his alleged attacker.
The man who was allegedly carrying the knife would later sit down calmly in a chair. It is understood the incident was the second of two knife attacks within minutes.
It is understood the earlier incident saw someone stabbed along Tonge Moor Road, but the victim’s wound was superficial.
The victim in the cafe suffered injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening, reports the Manchester Evening News. Neither victim is said to have known their attacker.
Several police cars were seen parked on Tonge Moor Road afterwards with officers making house-to-house enquiries.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed on Wednesday (April 22) that a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of assault. The incidents are believed to being treated as linked and mental health-related.
In a statement, the force said: “At around 10.30am we were called to reports of a stabbing on Tonge Moor Road, Bolton. Emergency services attended and two men were treated by medical professionals on site for stab wounds.
“A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
In a statement on Facebook, bosses at The Deli said: “Dear customers. Regarding the incident that took place this morning on Tonge Moor Rd. This incident has followed down and spilled into our premises.
“We would like to assure you all, our customers and staff are safe and helping GMP with their investigation. We would also like to thank our customer today who helped during the incident, keeping us safe. Of course he will receive free orders for life.
“Due to the disruption we have closed for the remainder of the day and will let you all know when we are back open for business. We wholeheartedly apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for understanding and we will see you all very soon! – Team Deli.”
