A 30-year-old cyclist has tragically died following ‘knee complications’ after a horror crash while riding the Tour du Jura earlier this month

A 30-year-old professional cyclist has tragically died after a horror crash that led to knee complications at the Tour du Jura.
Cristian Camilo Munoz was racing for Colombian team Nu Colombia at the third division race – which was won by talent American Matthew Riccitello. Munoz crashed out of the race in a reported incident with a motorbike.
The Colombian was taken to hospital, and according to El Tiempo, Muñoz required 20 stitches to one of his knees, before leaving the hospital on Sunday night. He then joined up with his teammates in Spain for the Vuelta Asturias, which started in Oviedo on Thursday.

However, on Tuesday, he was taken to another hospital in Valladolid as his condition worsened after he reportedly contracted septicemia. Munoz was transferred to a specialized clinic and placed in intensive care but sadly passed away on Friday – leaving the cycling world in mourning.
His NU Colombia squad have withdrawn from the Vuelta Asturias, while a minute’s silence was held before today’s second stage, where black ribbons were placed by officials on race vehicles.
Munoz had raced for UAE Team Emirates-XRG between 2019 and 2021 – alongside the likes of reigning Tour de France and World Champion Tadej Pogacar.
In a post on X, UAE said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and former colleague Cristian Muñoz.
“Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Descansa en paz Cristian.” Equipo Kern Pharma shared: “From the Kern Pharma Team, we wish to convey our most sincere condolences to the family, friends, and the NU Colombia team for the passing of Cristian Camilo Muñoz.”
While Burgos Burpellet BH added: we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Cristian Camilo Muñoz, cyclist of Nu Colombia who has passed away after suffering an accident during competition Rest in peace.”
