Royal Family make main Prince William and Kate Middleton annoucement
Prince William and Kate marked their 15th wedding anniversary by visiting IntoUniversity, one of the charities chosen for their Royal Wedding Gift Fund in 2011, before enjoying a romantic lunch at The Goring
The Prince and Princess of Wales marked their 15th wedding anniversary today by visiting a charity that benefitted from their Royal Wedding Gift Fund in 2011, Kensington Palace has revealed. IntoUniversity, an educational charity, was one of the 26 charities they selected for the royal wedding gift fund in 2011.
The couple also savoured a romantic meal at the London hotel where Catherine spent the night before their nuptials. Prince William and Princess Catherine spent half an hour at the Walworth Centre, joining five students who are part of the charity’s primary school programme.
This offers free immersive educational activities and workshops which support students’ aspirations, attainment and development of key skills that promote success at school and beyond.
Catherine, dressed in a pale blue blazer over black trousers, wore her gold necklace bearing the initials of George, Charlotte and Louis, keeping her children close to her heart.
The Gift Fund was established prior to their special day so that anyone wishing to present them with a wedding gift could instead donate to their chosen charities in celebration of their marriage.
IntoUniversity, which was in its infancy at the time of the royal wedding, strives to help disadvantaged young people reach their full potential, including university, higher education and employment.
They have gained enormously from the gift fund and have assisted the organisation in continuing to deliver pastoral and academic guidance to the young people they support, reports the Express.
Over the following 15 years, IntoUniversity has grown from a London-centred cluster of six centres into a comprehensive nationwide network of 46 centres across England and Scotland.
Following their visit, they headed for lunch at The Goring, where Catherine spent the night before the wedding.
Rachel Carr, chief executive and co-founder at IntoUniversity said: “Fifteen years ago, Their Royal Highnesses’ Royal Wedding Gift Fund provided generous support at a crucial moment for IntoUniversity.
“It not only helped us to continue our work, but also gave us the confidence to grow. Today, we are supporting tens of thousands of young people across the UK each year, and it was a privilege to share a part of that work with Their Royal Highnesses in person.
“We remain deeply grateful for the support of the Royal Wedding Gift Fund which has had a lasting impact on so many lives, and to Their Royal Highnesses for visiting IntoUniversity Walworth.
“It was a truly memorable day for our young people and the charity, one we will be talking about for years to come.”
