‘Ridiculous’ PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist named as followers slam choice

Premier League fans have been left furious with the PFA Young Player of the Year top six shortlist and have called for a complete change to the once prestigious award

Premier League fans have been left furious and have called for change after a number of bizarre nominations for the PFA Young Player of the Year.

The six-player shortlist for the award was named and eyebrows have been raised about most of the players on the list. Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly and Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi deservedly top the rankings. However, there has been backlash against the inclusion of Rayan Cherki, Max Dowman, Kobbie Mainoo and Rio Ngumoha.

O’Reilly is the favourite to receive the award after the 21-year-old scored five goals and notched four assists in 34 games in a true coming of age campaign as he featured predominantly at left-back but also in midfield.

Bournemouth’s sensational 19-year-old striker Kroupi is a close second to O’Reilly to claim the honour after scoring 13 goals in 33 league games in his first season in English football following his £10million move from Lorient.

The two mentioned players are the perfect representatives for who the award should represent. Both young talents have enjoyed campaigns that have propelled them into the discussions for being the best young players in their position in the Premier League, but also European football.
