Lamine Yamal’s mum singles out Gunners star

Lamine Yamal’s mum has singled out Mikel Merino as her underrated player during a chat with her superstar son.

The Barcelona youngster, who is playing at the World Cup alongside Merino for Spain, named some under-the-radar players on his YouTube channel, reports the Mirror.

Yamal mentioned Ferran Torres, Thomas Muller and Gerard Martin as his underrated players before asking his mother for her thoughts. She replied: “Merino from Arsenal. I’m a big fan of Merino.”

Merino has been a key figure for both club and country, scoring 10 goals in 42 caps for Spain and contributing to 23 goals for Arsenal over 78 appearances.

Agent speaks out on move

Julian Alvarez’s representative Fernando Hidalgo has disclosed that Real Madrid have made no approach for his client.

The Atletico Madrid forward has emerged as a sought-after talent in the transfer window with Arsenal, Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all circling for the 26-year-old, who could cost in excess of £100m.

Nevertheless, Hidalgo has informed 365Scores that despite Spanish media suggestions to the contrary, no formal contact has been established regarding Alvarez.

He stated: “We have no information on the matter, and no one has contacted us about it.”

Barcelona have reportedly already tabled an offer for the Argentina international, while Arsenal maintain a sustained interest in Alvarez stretching back to his Manchester City days.

The Argentina international has declined to discuss his future but conceded several months ago that he couldn’t promise he would remain at Atletico beyond this season.

The club are reportedly only willing to let him go for at least £130m.
