Birmingham instructor who sexually assaulted two boys says ‘I simply needed him to sit down nonetheless’
Adam Sherwood, 57, abused his position of trust while working as a private tutor at his home in Moseley, Birmingham, and has been jailed for two years and six months
A Birmingham teacher who sexually assaulted two children while working as a private tutor has been jailed.
During an investigation by West Midlands Police, it was discovered that Adam Sherwood, 57, had abused his position of trust while tutoring at his home in Moseley.
Sherwood had been providing weekly English and maths tuition to a boy at his home, during which he touched him inappropriately over an extended period until the boy informed his parents. Upon his arrest and subsequent interview, Sherwood lied and denied that the touching was sexual in nature. He blamed the boy’s behaviour, claiming he was merely trying to get him to sit still during lessons.
Sherwood also inappropriately touched another boy, under the age of 13, at a climbing centre in Birmingham, reports Birmingham Live.
During his interview, Sherwood once again denied that the touching was sexual, asserting that he’d reacted as the boy was about to kick him in the face while climbing.
The offences occurred in 2019 and 2023.
Sherwood was found guilty of four counts of sexual touching of a boy under the age of 13 back in March following a trial.
Sherwood returned to Birmingham Crown Court on June 19 for sentencing, where he received a prison term of two years and six months.
He was also added to the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
DC Sarah Toye, from the Complex Child Abuse Investigation team, who spearheaded the investigation, stated: “Sherwood was in a position of trust which he took full advantage of to gain access to assault his victims.
“We are pleased he is now behind bars where he can reflect on his actions.
“I would like to also praise the two boys who showed such bravery throughout the investigation and court process where both attended to give evidence.”
