UK climate maps present new 38C heatwave inside days as 17 counties set to sizzle
UK weather maps are predicting another scorching heatwave within days, with temperatures forecast to soar to 38C across 17 England counties, according to the latest GFS weather model data
Another blistering heatwave could be just around the corner, with UK temperatures potentially set to soar to a sweltering 38C, according to weather forecasting maps. Yesterday (June 26) marked the hottest day of the year so far – and the warmest June day on record.
The heatwave that has been baking Brits all week saw temperatures reach a sizzling 37.3C in Santon Downham. The Met Office was even forced to issue rare red weather warnings for extreme heat across England. The heatwave has also triggered thunderstorms and lightning, causing significant damage to buildings in some areas.
According to the latest forecast from the Met Office, peak temperatures are finally expected to dip below 30C tomorrow. However, it might not be long before we see the mercury rise above 30C once more.
The GFS weather model predicts a four-day heatwave at the start of next month, commencing on July 8. The data indicates highs of 30C to 33C across central and southern England on July 8, with the highest temperatures expected in western regions and the south-east, reports the Mirror.
For July 9, the maps indicate temperatures could climb as high as 36C near London, with 35C quite widespread across southern and eastern England. Parts of Wales are also predicted to hit 30C.
A scorching 38C is forecasted for July 10, according to the GFS weather model, with western England and the south experiencing the most intense heat. The majority of England and Wales is shown on the maps as reaching over 30C.
And mercury levels could once again soar to 38C on July 11, hitting the north-west, Midlands, Yorkshire and the south-east. Regions stretching as far north as the England-Scotland border might witness highs of 30C or above, according to the forecasting data.
Temperature anomaly charts for this timeframe display the UK bathed in deep red shading, particularly across England. This indicates where mercury levels are anticipated to climb well beyond seasonal norms.
Overall, the GFS weather model projections reveal 17 counties might experience 38C or higher. All are located within England.

Met Office weather forecast
The Met Office indicates “hot” conditions might emerge in July, alongside the possibility of some “thundery showers”. Its outlook for July 11 to 25 declares: “High pressure patterns are looking slightly more likely than low pressure patterns during the early part of this period, meaning a greater chance of settled and drier than average conditions.
“Although with outbreaks of rain and stronger winds at times, more especially across the north.
There is still a chance of some changeable or more unsettled conditions developing later in the period, with a risk of some heavy and thundery showers.
“Temperatures are likely to be above normal on the whole, with a greater than normal chance of hot conditions developing at times.”
