Mass capturing leaves one lifeless and several other injured as police swarm ‘social gathering’

A woman who witnessed the violence said the gathering had been peaceful just moments before the gunfire erupted, as the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigate

A shooting near a suspected “street takeover” in Carson, California, has left a 22-year-old man dead and six others injured. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputies were called to the corner of Charles Willard Street and Harmon Avenue around 3am, where they discovered a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Although he has not been publicly identified by authorities, family members stated the victim was 22 years old.

Two other victims were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities later learned that four additional individuals took themselves to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The LASD noted that at least one of the victims is a 16-year-old, though it remains unclear whether the teenager is among those critically injured.

A woman who claims to have witnessed the violence, but asked not to be identified, stold local news outlets that the gathering had been “peaceful” just moments before the gunfire erupted. “Everything was so nice and then out of the blue,” she said. “It was just like a tragedy going on.”

The witness stated she was standing only a few feet away when she saw the gunman approach one of the victims and begin firing. “He started walking toward the victim and started shooting at him,” she recalled. “That’s when I started running, and after that I heard four more shots going on.”

She described the shooter’s behaviour during the attack as erratic, noting, “He’s kind of like going crazy with his hand movement, so that’s when I decided to start running.”

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding potential suspects or motives.
