Scientist says hell is actual and we’re all trapped inside an enormous Matrix-style online game

A controversial theory linking visions of hell in near-death experiences to the idea that reality is a simulated world has been put forward by a doctor studying the phenomenon

The world we live in is actually a simulated reality and we’re being judged by its creator on our life choices, a doctor has claimed. Healthcare researcher Dr Orson Wedgwood says reports of near-death experiences often contain similar features.

And he believes the common themes –such as foul smells, demonic figures and violent imagery – are not hallucinations but instead real experiences of a vision of hell within a God-created “simulation” designed to test human souls.

Dr Wedgwood, a devout Christian, believes the acts as a structured environment in which humans are assessed on their choices during life. He said: “We are in a created environment, or a ‘simulation’ in which we are being tested.”

He said near death experiences are directly linked to the controversial “simulation theory” and claims those who reject God may either lose their eternal aspect or find themselves in a dark afterlife realm.

The theory suggests that what humans perceive as reality is actually a computer-generated artificial reality, similar to the plot of the blockbuster film series The Matrix, and has been touted by trillionaire space cadet Elon Musk.

Dr Wedgwood told the Daily Mail: “Our consciousness, how we behave, and the experiences we have are real, but the rest is not.

“The simulation is designed to sort us into those who will be with God after the simulation is over versus those who won’t, all in a safe environment where we can’t do any damage.

“Most of this is in line with the Bible, and it is also somewhat in line with simulation theory expounded by people like Elon Musk who have concluded that life is not a random act of nature.”

He also claims that individuals can still be “rescued” from such experiences if they call out to God, highlighting the case of Ian McCormack, a New Zealand surfer who says he experienced hell after being stung by a jellyfish in 1982.

In a new book, Dr Wedgwood explores the world of negative near-death experiences, including some horrifying testimonials and cites an account from one woman in 2019 who said she saw monstrous beings, furtive creatures and overwhelmed with pain.

Wedgwood claimed that people who have such experiences often become acutely aware that they are in hell.

He added: “Many colleagues I’ve worked with over the years will agree – perhaps more privately than publicly – that they cannot provide explanations of the origin of the universe, the origin of life, and where consciousness comes from.

“A lot of them now are adopting this simulation theory that we’re living in a simulation, and this is like serious PhDs.”
