Jeremy Clarkson slams Andy Burnham with brutal one-word verdict

Jeremy Clarkson has taken a brutal swipe at Andy Burnham just hours after the Labour politician delivered his first major speech, branding him worse than Keir Starmer

Jeremy Clarkson has delivered a savage blow just hours after Andy Burnham unveiled his radical government proposals in his first major address. Keir Starmer’s probable successor outlined his economic and devolution blueprint during a crucial speech in Manchester on Monday (June 29).

However, within moments of wrapping up his presentation, he was spotted making a hasty retreat through the rear entrance as he refused to field questions from journalists.

His sudden departure instantly triggered fury from Britons across the nation, and now the Clarkson’s Farm presenter has entered the heated online row. Posting on X, one user asked the question: “Do you think Andy Burnham will be worse than Starmer?” to which the 66 year old motoring expert curtly responded: “Yes”.

Supporters quickly rushed to the replies section to voice their matching concerns about the possibility of Burnham securing the keys to Downing Street. One user wrote: “I’m absolutely sure he will be worse. The evidence keeps building.”

Another concurred: “Agree. I think we should have a general election so the people can decide who is the next PM. Not the same old same old…” A third added: “He already is, and he’s not got the job yet.”, reports the Express.

Meanwhile, some have suggested that the telly host should give the politician a chance before lambasting him on social media. One irate user vented: “How’s about suggesting some stuff to help rather than just moaning. Or become an MP and do something.”

Another concurred: “Like you could do better. I would like to see that given your old catchphrase was, ‘How hard can it be?'”.

The father-of-four’s distaste for the former Mayor of Manchester is no surprise to his devoted followers. Back in May, the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire presenter backed the Green Party candidate running against the politician in the run-up to the Makerfield by-election.

He assured his large fanbase that voting for her wasn’t as “mad” as people might have initially believed. Clarkson targeted Burnham’s anticipated return to Westminster in his weekly column in the Times, asserting that there is “no dignity” in the move.

The broadcaster admitted he initially thought Green candidate Sarah Wakefield was a sort of “loony left” character. But after researching the politician, who is an executive director of food charity Eating Better, Clarkson penned that the reality was quite different.

The former Top Gear star even found himself agreeing with Wakefield on several of her points and leapt to her defence over queries about her employment history, highlighting her past roles at the WWF and the Co-op. He penned: “At least the girl’s been out there.

“She’s got up in a morning, got dressed and put in a shift. I’d rather vote for someone like that than someone who spent their early life getting pregnant and the next few years in a pointless quango.”

However, his harshest critique was reserved for the Labour MP, confessing that he disapproved of how the by-election had transpired, with a Labour MP relinquishing his seat to create the vacancy. He raged: “There’s no dignity in that”.
