Five useless after tanker crashes into toll sales space and explodes in enormous fireball in India
Horrifying CCTV footage captured the front of the lorry crumpling as the motorist appeared to smash into a concrete barrier at high speed in Uttar Pradesh, India
Five people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after an LPG tanker erupted in flames following a collision at a toll booth. Horrifying CCTV footage captured the front of the lorry crumpling as the motorist appeared to smash into a concrete barrier at high speed.
A thick white cloud of LPG rapidly enveloped the surrounding area before bursting into flames minutes later on Friday morning (June 26). The motorist, named as 40-year-old Dharmendra Dwivedi, is thought to have lost control before slamming into the toll plaza in Sihori Kachar, in India’s Uttar Pradesh state.
Dwivedi, from Mirzapur-cum-Vindhyachal, was journeying from Kanpur to Varanasi at the time, according to NeedToKnow. The inferno, which was subsequently extinguished by fire crews, was so fierce that it could reportedly be seen from approximately 2km away.
Dwivedi perished in the flames inside the tanker’s cab, while toll plaza worker Alok Singh, 26, later passed away in hospital on the day of the collision.
Bystander Anil Kumar, of Handia, died from his burn wounds on Wednesday (1 July).
Yesterday (2 July), Hiramani Singh, 29, of Raebareli, and Krishan Pal Maurya, 23, of Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh state, also passed away in hospital in Prayagraj.
Another casualty, Atul Mishra, who suffered severe burns, has been moved to a hospital in Rewa for additional treatment.
The blast also obliterated 16 motorcycles and two cars parked close to the toll plaza.
The reason behind the crash remains under investigation.
