Man Utd information: £60m switch ‘settlement in place’ as contract provide accepted by star

Manchester United are yet to make a signing in the summer transfer window, but that might be about to change as Michael Carrick eyes major recruits

Manchester United have yet to make their mark in the summer transfer window but that could all be about to change.

Michael Carrick has been appointed on a two-year contract as their permanent manager, but the Red Devils are still awaiting the announcement of his maiden signing. That acquisition is anticipated to be Atalanta midfielder Ederson, though his £35million transfer cannot be finalised until Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign concludes.

With Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s lengthy injury layoff, at least one midfielder, possibly two, is expected to arrive and strengthen Carrick’s choices in the middle of the park. The attacking department represents another priority area, with Rafael Leao consistently being touted for a switch to Old Trafford after voicing his desire to quit AC Milan. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Rafael Leao ‘agreement’

Sky Sport Italia are reporting AC Milan have consented to Rafael Leao’s departure should they receive a bid of £51-60million for the winger.

The 27-year-old – who is presently featuring for Portugal at the World Cup and wowed against Croatia in their last game – made clear his intention to quit the Italian heavyweights this summer.

And he has supposedly been identified by the Premier League powerhouses as a potential signing, reports the Mirror, after an injury-hit campaign when he contributed just 10 goals and three assists in only 31 appearances.

A deal for the figures reported – which Milan settled with Leao’s representatives in a recent meeting – would enable the club to make a tidy profit on the £42.4m they paid Lille to secure his services in 2019.

Expressing his wish to seek fresh pastures, Leao told Sport TV: “I think I gave Milan everything I could give. It is a club that helped me grow a lot and supported me through difficult moments. I am happy to have left my mark on the club’s history.

“Everyone has their dreams, their challenges, the things they want, the goals they want to achieve. And I also want to take on a new challenge in a new league.”

The media outlet claims that Milan would be willing to allow Leao to depart on loan with an obligation to purchase him next summer but would favour an outright sale.

New contract awarded

United goalkeeper Dermot Mee has agreed a fresh two-year deal to extend his stint at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old’s contract ran out this week but was retained at the club after being offered new terms.

Still to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils, Mee has featured 27 times for United’s U21s but possesses limited experience at first-team level.

He turned out four times for Altrincham in the National League during the 2022/23 campaign and has also represented the likes of Trafford, Runcorn Linnets and Witton Albion.

Regarded as a crucial part of United’s set-up, the club’s announcement of his contract extension stated: “The academy graduate will continue to provide excellent support and competition for the goalkeeper group.

“The Birmingham-born stopper, who has represented Northern Ireland at youth level, has played a key role in first-team training in recent years, while representing United’s Under-21s side in competitive fixtures.
