Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick’s sons cement Man Utd future at Old Trafford occasion
Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick were among a group of Manchester United youngsters who signed scholarship deals with the club
Jacey Carrick and Kai Rooney are amongst a cohort of Manchester United youngsters who have marked putting pen to paper on scholarship agreements with a special evening at Old Trafford.
The duo were part of eight players who attended the annual scholars evening on Friday, which witnessed youngsters welcomed into the Professional Development Phase programme. Carrick and Rooney struck a pose together for a photograph on the evening, while their beaming fathers looked on.
United head coach Michael was present both as the first team manager and father to Jacey, while Wayne was in attendance on a break from World Cup punditry responsibilities.
Kai, 16, chalked up six outings in the Under-18 Premier League last season as well as making his FA Youth Cup debut. He is anticipated to assume a more significant role for Darren Fletcher’s Under-18 squad next season.

Jacey, also 16, managed just one outing in the Under-18 Premier League last term, but the midfielder has inked scholarship papers to progress his development next campaign.
A scholarship contract permits players to advance their growth as footballers and represents the final stage before the prospect of penning professional terms, which can take effect from a player’s 17th birthday.
Frequently, young players will secure professional contracts before turning 17, with those agreements commencing from their birthday.

The remaining players to ink scholarship deals this summer are Gazik Ibragimov, Edson Dejonge-Seiros, Harlem McLaughlin, Pharell Silvester, Connor Laurie and Jaume Camacho.
At 15, JJ Gabriel is too young to put pen to paper and that progression will arrive next season, when United could once again face a battle to retain their gifted forward.
