Worker dies after plunging from Birmingham Children’s Hospital as probe launched

Emergency services were called to the hospital in the city centre after a man fell from the building on Friday (July 10) shortly before 10am, with police and the HSE now investigating

A man has tragically lost his life after falling from a children’s hospital. Emergency services were called to the scene after a man plummeted from the building on Friday (July 10) just before 10am.

It is understood that the man was working on a construction site at Birmingham Children’s Hospital at the time of the incident. Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust stated: “There has been an incident at a construction site at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

“And our sympathies are with the family and friends of the individual involved. Support is being provided to those who have been affected.”, reports Birmingham Live.

The man is believed to have been employed on a BSN Group Construction site. A representative for the group said: “We are saddened to confirm that a person has died following an incident at our construction site at Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Friday, 10 July.

“Our thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time.

“We take health and safety very seriously, and we are assisting the police, the Health and Safety Executive and all relevant authorities with their enquiries.

“As investigations are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”

The incident occurred just one day after Prince Harry paid a visit to the hospital as part of a regional tour during which he launched the year-countdown to the Invictus Games in the city in 2027.

Police have confirmed they are liaising with the HSE as investigations commence.

A representative for West Midlands Police stated: “We were called to Birmingham Children’s Hospital after a man is understood to have fallen from the building at just before 9.50am today (10 July).

“The man was sadly confirmed dead a short time later and our thoughts are with his loved ones.
