England followers can keep within the pub for Norway sport all evening as opening hours prolonged

Pubs in England and Wales can remain open until 30 minutes after the final whistle of England vs Norway on Saturday, with the Government granting a licensing extension if the 10pm kick-off is delayed

England supporters will be allowed to remain in the pub until after Saturday night’s match against Norway concludes, according to Government officials. Extended licensing hours mean that pubs across England and Wales can keep their doors open for 30 minutes following the final whistle, even if kick-off is delayed due to extreme heat conditions.

England are set to face off against Norway at 10pm BST on Saturday, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Government ministers had already extended opening hours for the match until 2am, but have now granted an additional extension under flexible licensing laws.

Policing minister Sarah Jones stated: “England fans deserve the chance to watch every minute of the quarter-final together, and that is exactly what our extension guarantees.

“After the weather delay we saw before the Mexico game, we want to give fans and venues complete certainty that no-one will miss a moment of the action.

“I hope pubs and bars across England and Wales are packed on Saturday night, as we hopefully move one step closer to bringing football home.”

The Three Lions’ previous match against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in the host country was delayed by an hour due to stormy weather conditions.

Licensing hours were extended into the early morning for that match, which England triumphed in with a 3-2 victory.

Meanwhile, England captain Harry Kane says it is “impossible” for him to be compared with Norway star Erling Haaland as the two strikers face off in the World Cup quarter-final.

The crunch clash in Miami on Saturday has been billed as the battle of the two best strikers in the world.

Bayern Munich’s Kane is enjoying a record-breaking season, scoring 73 goals for club and country, including six in the World Cup, while Manchester City star Haaland has bagged 58, with his seven at the tournament firing Norway to a first-ever quarter-final.

When Kane was asked who is the better ahead of the match, he replied: “It is an impossible one for me to answer.

“First of all, I think we are completely different players almost. I know we are both seen as strikers, but it is almost two different positions if I’m totally honest.

“Erling has been incredible, his goalscoring record. Physically, he’s a machine, he’s a beast. His finishing is at the highest level and obviously his goalscoring record speaks for itself.

“I see myself as a different player although I score the same goals. I like to maybe touch the ball a little bit more, be involved in play a little bit more but also can play as an out-and-out nine.

“I don’t think it is one to compare ourselves.”
