Ex-Liverpool footballer Jordon Ibe ‘pulled braid out ex’s head and left her with bald spot’
Jordon Ibe, who played for Liverpool between 2013 and 2016, has pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend Amie Mayson outside her home in south London, with sentencing due on September 4
Ex-Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe yanked a braid from his former girlfriend’s head during a row, a court has been told.
Ibe, 30, attacked his ex-partner Amie Mayson outside her residence in Lambeth, south London. Croydon Magistrates’ Court was informed that Ibe and Ms Mayson were embroiled in a dispute on December 14 when Ms Mayson confronted Ibe, demanding that he repay money she claimed he owed her.
Prosecutors stated that Ibe had a bag filled with drinks, snacks and flowers, but when Ms Mayson tossed muffins on the ground and labelled Ibe a “druggy”, he seized her by the hair.
The footballer, who clocked up 41 appearances for the Anfield team before stints at Derby County, Birmingham City and AFC Bournemouth, ripped a braid from Ms Mayson’s head, leaving her with a bald spot, the court heard.
In a victim impact statement from February, read out in court on Tuesday, Ms Mayson revealed the assault had severely impacted her confidence, self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
“Looking in the mirror is very distressing for me, the injury is a constant reminder of what happened and often leaves me feeling emotionally drained and upset,” she expressed in the statement.
Ibe, dressed in a black jacket and black trousers in the dock, spoke to confirm his personal details and to alter his plea to guilty, having previously denied the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in March.
He apologised for slightly misstating his postcode, telling the court: “Sorry, I’m a bit nervous.”
The former England under-21 international now represents Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League, the premier league in the Balkan nation.
He made 92 appearances for Bournemouth between 2016 and 2020.
In the past two years, he had been participating in non-league football before finalising the move to the Bulgarian capital in November 2025.
District Judge Polly Gledhill informed the court: “We are in community order territory and I am going to ask for a pre-sentence report. I am not ruling anything out.”
She encouraged Ibe to be “as honest and open” with probation as possible ahead of his sentencing.
Ibe was granted bail with stipulations not to contact Ms Mayson or visit her residence.
Judge Gledhill informed Ibe, who resides between Chislehurst, south-east London, and Bulgaria, that he will be sentenced at the same court on September 4.
