I went to an grownup Sports Day BBQ and was blown away by your entire expertise
I had the time of my life at a BBQ-styled adult sports day which brought back all the nostalgia of school
Numerous games were played at the function
Sports day was one of my favourite days in school. So when I saw “The BBQ Presents” were hosting the “The Summer Games” – an adults sports day – I rushed to grab a ticket.
After travelling down to St Dunstan’s Jubilee Ground, London, on July 12, I was greeted with immaculate food, great music and an incredible afternoon. From tug of war, to the sack race, and even a short sprint, the summer soirée was packed with numerous events for attendees looking to enjoy themselves in the sun.
In a surprising turn of events I was actually brave enough to participate in the men’s short sprint after being swayed by a very handsome £100 cash prize. I was always one of the faster kids in secondary school but after the short sprint it was very clear my glory days were far behind me.
I used to be a great sprinter
Despite finishing far from a medal in all the events, it felt great to get moving and have a little fun again. And it has inspired me to start running more as the summer link-up reawakened my long lost love for the exercise.
The event provided guests with a beautiful fusion of flavours as dished out by the Jerk Shac, Unique Flavours. Drinks were provided by a number of different vendors and the tropical KA Drinks helped fuel guests at the summer function alongside the LDN Sip and CND Drinks.
While I’m not a massive fan of matcha, I’m starting to understand the craze for the green tea after I enjoyed a cup of LDN Sip’s half coffee and half matcha fusion.
The event was lively
The founder of the BBQ Myles Dunbar, a Digital Project Manager, has shared his thoughts on the summer event and dubbed it a success.
He stated: “Success for me was never just about how many tickets we sold or how many people came through the gates. Success was directly tied to supporting the cause and raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.
“If people left having enjoyed themselves while also learning something about MS or starting conversations they otherwise wouldn’t have had, then the event had already achieved something much bigger than entertainment.”
Pulling the lid back on how the event started Myles stated: “The BBQ started in my grandad’s back garden back in 2017 as a way of bringing people together, and seeing how far it’s come has been incredible.
The 32-year-old, from Catford, south-east London, stated: “Every year we’ve tried to create something that people feel part of rather than just attend, and I think The Summer Games really achieved that.
“Looking around and seeing hundreds of people laughing together, competing in the games, supporting complete strangers and simply enjoying being outdoors was exactly what I’d hoped for.”
The vibes were spot on
The event wasn’t only just aimed at providing guests with an amazing experience but also strived to raise awareness for an invisible condition called MS, which affects thousands of people across the UK.
MS, short for Multiple Sclerosis, is a lifelong neurological condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerves (myelin), disrupting signal communication between the brain and the rest of the body.
Myles started: “Partnering with the MS Society made the day even more meaningful because this is a cause that’s deeply personal to me. Living with Multiple Sclerosis means I understand first-hand the challenges that come with the condition, so being able to use our platform to raise awareness while creating a positive experience for everyone there meant everything.”
He added: “If even one person walked away with a better understanding of MS, or someone living with the condition felt seen and represented, then that alone made the event a success in my eyes.”
