Kensington Palace make main announcement concerning Prince William and Kate Middleton

Kensington Palace has announced that The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton, will attend the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow today but no word has been given regarding their children

The Prince and Princess of Wales are set to attend the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow today (August 1), Kensington Palace has revealed in the early hours of last night. The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, as they are styled in Scotland, will take in various sporting events on the second-to-last day of competition.

William and Kate will also meet with Team Wales competitors and their relatives, including those backed by SportsAid.

The Princess has served as Patron of SportsAid since 2013 and has encountered numerous young sportspeople aided by the charity, alongside Olympians and Paralympians who previously received support from the organisation, at training sessions, performance seminars and fundraising occasions.

Amongst those greeting the royal pair will be the emerging generation of national contenders being nurtured through the Team England Futures initiative.

The Team England Futures initiative will provide promising young competitors and ambitious support personnel with the chance to experience the Glasgow Games and gain behind-the-scenes insight to equip them for medal-winning displays as Team England, Team GB or ParalympicsGB newcomers at forthcoming Games.

No information has been released regarding whether any of their three children will accompany them to the Commonwealth Games on Saturday, reports the Express.

The Games have attracted strong royal attendance throughout the competition, with the King and Queen present at the Opening Ceremony – having made their entrance in Doctor Who’s Tardis, while the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal have been spotted at numerous sporting contests.

Yesterday, Edward made his second visit to the Bowls and Para Bowls, having attended last week, and was accompanied by his wife.

The pair took seats in the front row of one of the stands and had a chat with some of the numerous volunteers who help ensure the Games operate seamlessly.
