A barbecue turned into a terrifying ordeal for a popular YouTube family after leaving a dad with second-degree burns. Social media personality Rebecca Zamolo revealed her husband suffered severe facial injuries when the cookout went horribly wrong just hours before they were set to jet off on holiday to celebrate his birthday.

The online star boasts a massive following, with more than 30 million subscribers on YouTube alongside an audience of around 3.3 million on Instagram, thanks to the popularity of her family vlogs and viral challenges.

Her husband, Matt Yoakum, is well know to fans and frequently stars in the couple’s uploads alongside their young children, Zadie and Xander.

The frightening incident came to light on Friday (July 31) when Rebecca uploaded photos revealing the painful, red marks left across Matt’s face.

The family from California, US, did not to elaborate on the exact cause of the blaze or whether Matt required emergency hospital care on the spot, reports the Mirror.

Taking to Instagram Rebecca wrote: “For those who don’t know, Matt’s face caught on fire at our BBQ and it gave him ‘2nd degree superficial burns’.

“It was hours before our flight to Hawaii to celebrate his birthday so he has been healing here. (He still wanted to go). It was a scary incident for all of us, and a reminder how precious life is.

“Thank you to everyone that has reached out and friends that are in the medical field and put him on a good path to heal. He’s extremely lucky as it could have been a lot worse, but we are taking it day by day. We love you Matt.”

Many of her followers left comments to show their support. One wrote: “Omg. That is horrible. So happy he’s okay.”

Another said: “Sending love & prayers.” A third follower added: “This is awful! Get well soon Matt!”

The couple has not shared an update on Matt’s condition since the images were posted on Friday, but Rebecca said they were handling his recovery one day at a time.
