Drivers took a double take when they spotted a real life super hero putting his own life at risk to save another the other day.
Motorists were left wondering if their eyes were deceiving them as the lycra clad superhero was spotted jumping into action in real life, helping a man in a wheelchair to navigate busy roads. The unnamed man using a wheelchair was struggling to get across six lanes of traffic in an Arkansas city when the help came in an unexpected way.
The hero – Christopher Hellenthal – had actually been at a superhero themed party and opted ot go as Spiderman, but he quickly jumped into action when he spotted the man struggling while driving home.
The moment was captured on security cameras
He was in his red Jeep waiting at a light when he spotted the man struggling so hopped into action, helping him navigate the crossing.
He ran out to help, declaring: “I got you” much to the amusement of onlookers.
He rolled the man to safety only seconds before the light changed and the rows of traffic continued on their way.
The moment was captured by a street security camera and later shared on social media by local police, who thanked Hellenthal for helping the man reach safety across the crosswalk.
Speaking after, Hellenthal said: “I had a bunch of adrenaline pumping through me. I was just kind of thinking, ‘I’m wearing this suit; it’s gonna be pretty funny.’”
He got the man out of oncoming traffic
After rolling the man safely across the road, a local route, Hellenthal bolted back into his Jeep blocking traffic “because the light turned green pretty fast”, adding that he has “always been a Spiderman fan.”
After the Jonesboro Police Department shared the video on Facebook, it became a viral sensation, quickly accumulating tens of thousands of ‘likes’ on the social media platform.
“Not in my 7 years in the department have I witnessed this,” said Sally Smith, a department spokesperson said. Police did not identify the individual using the wheelchair by name.
