Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly weighing up a bombshell public apology to King Charles after years of “enormous pain” and royal fallout. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are claimed to be crafting a carefully worded statement designed to give the Monarch “the respect he wants” without forcing the couple to back down on their previous claims.
It comes after the family enjoyed a private reunion at Highgrove House last month, where Charles was finally able to catch up with his estranged son, daughter-in-law and young grandchildren Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The high-stakes move could mark the ultimate turning point for the Firm following half a decade of bitter tensions triggered by explosive interviews, Netflix tell-alls and Harry’s memoir Spare.

Speaking to royal journalist Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, a source said: “Everyone agrees trust has to be rebuilt. An apology doesn’t have to be a surrender.
“It’s an acknowledgement that this family feud went too far. Charles wants peace – but he also wants respect. This could be the first real step towards both.”
The source stressed that any potential statement would not mean the Sussexes taking back their previous allegations of racism and mistreatment within the royal household, reports the Express.

Instead, it would focus on putting an end to the long-standing feud and acknowledging the deep emotional toll it has taken on all sides.
“This isn’t about Harry and Meghan admitting they were wrong about everything,” the source said. “It’s about acknowledging that the past five years have caused enormous pain.
“The debate now is over what an apology should say, and, just as importantly, what it shouldn’t.”
The potential peace offering comes hot on the heels of the Sussexes’ UK trip last month, where Harry took part in official public duties alongside a string of behind-closed-doors meetings.
The family of four quietly gathered at the King’s Gloucestershire residence, Highgrove House, alongside Queen Camilla.
Palace officials later described the reunion as a “private family occasion,” with no photos released to the public.
It is believed the Monarch met with his son directly after Harry wrapped up his appearance at the Invictus Games in Birmingham. The trip marked Meghan’s first time stepping foot in Britain since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
During their low-key visit, the couple are also rumoured to have taken Archie and Lilibet to Althorp Estate – the ancestral home of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana – to pay a private tribute at her final resting place.
