‘Pond boy’ submerged for 5 years after thriller pores and skin situation analysis
A teenager has been dubbed ‘Pond Boy’ as he’s spent most of the last five years submerged in a body of water.
Iqbal Sheikh, from Murshidabad in India, has a mysterious skin condition which means he often feels a burning sensation. His family have tried everything – from taking him to several hospitals to visiting traditional healers. Unfortunately for the 16-year-old nothing seems to be worked – so he got plonked in a pond while his family hoped for the best.
Remarkably, this water-based technique seems to be doing the trick which is why Iqbal has been pond-bound for the last half-decade. The cooling water provides a great deal of relief for the lad, who gets to lollop around next to some lily pads all day.
Clips emerged recently showing Iqbal chilling in his pond, eating some snacks. According to Gulf News, although no one has been able to diagnose his illness there could be hope on the horizon.
Iqbal’s plight has been picked up by one of the richest people in India – Anant Ambani.
Ambani, 31, has reportedly “taken an interest” in Iqbal, organising the youngster’s travel to Mumbai – 1,300 miles away from rural Murshidabad – where he can receive specialist evaluation.
Health professionals are now anticipated to carry out some medical evaluations ahead of putting together a treatment plan. Time is not on Iqbal’s side – the amount of time he spends in the water means he is at constant risk of pneumonia and suffers with a continuous cough.
While it is not known what Iqbal is suffering from, the symptoms he has exhibited are similar to a health condition called erythromelalgia.
The NHS defines the illness as having symptoms including a burning sensation in the skin, as well as feeling warmth or redness.
According to the NHS, erythromelalgia mostly impacts the feet, but can also affect other parts of the body as well.
