UK city rocked by earthquake as residents hear ‘bang’ and ‘felt the home shake’
A 2.2 magnitude earthquake struck Grimsby in Lincolnshire on Tuesday evening, with residents reporting feeling a sudden shake and rumble just before 7:50pm some heard a “bang”

A 2.2 magnitude earthquake struck a UK town on Tuesday evening (August 25). The tremor was detected in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, as confirmed by the British Geological Survey website.
Residents of the east coast town, along with those in nearby Cleethorpes and surrounding areas, reported experiencing the quake just before 7.50pm. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 5km, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Locals took to social media to describe ‘shakes’ and ‘rumbles’ felt during the night. One said: “I felt what felt like a really quick shake in my house, I thought something heavy had fallen down upstairs or in the loft.”

Another remarked: “Felt a bang like the house being hit.”
A Facebook user wrote: “Felt the house shake and rumble.”
Yet another resident shared: “I heard a deep rumble, I thought it was thunder.”
The quake in Grimsby means the UK has been rocked by 10 tremors in August, according to the British Geological Survey. Grimsby was also the highest magnitude earthquake recorded this month at 2.2.
Others ranged from 0.4 to 2.1 and were recording in place like West Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
