Jamal Musiala collapsed twice within the space of three days while playing for Bayern Munich in pre-season, with the club now giving an update

Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Jamal Musiala is responding positively, after the Bayern Munich star collapsed in two pre-season matches.
The 23-year-old sparked alarm as he fell to the turf during the Bavarians’ match with RB Leipzig on Saturday, August 15, before collapsing once more three days later against Heidenheim.
Team-mates formed a protective circle around the German international, as he received treatment from medical staff. He was then assisted off the pitch.
In the days after, Musiala explained that he had been undergoing treatment for “absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction,” stating that it was “temporary and easily treatable.”
He posted on Instagram: “First things first – I’m doing well. I’m especially grateful for all your messages and your support. I understand that many of you are worried.
“Today, I’d like to put your minds at ease and explain the situation a little: I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but readily treatable absences, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction.
“These can lead to the episodes that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim. I know that they may seem scary at first glance – but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life.

“In close consultation and regular communication with the specialists, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the approval of the neurological specialists, to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply getting on with my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football.
“I have taken responsibility for that decision. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I’m on the right track. What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team, with your fantastic support.
“I hope this helps you understand me a little better. At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to continue keeping this matter within the circle of my closest confidants, the club and the experts.”

Now, Bayern’s manager, Kompany, has revealed that Musiala is responding positively to treatment and that he will be brought back into the first-team when ready. He said: “He’s getting used to the increase in medication and he’s responding well to it.
“He’ll be back in the squad at some point and he’ll play normally again. But of course we’ll make that decision hand in hand with all the experts (doctors) and everyone else. But he’s fine.”
It comes as Bayern Munich are poised to launch their Bundesliga campaign at home against VfB Stuttgart on Friday evening. Musiala has been ruled out of making an appearance, as he continues his recovery.
