Sky Sports presenter Johnny Phillips was forced to apologise after Rayan Cherki used some choice language in his live post-match interview following Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

The Manchester City midfielder scored twice in the win at Selhurst Park but the French international wasn’t happy with his first-half performance.

When asked what he thought of his display, Cherki said his performance was ‘so-so’ before then offering a blunter response, saying he was ‘S***’ in the first-half.

The French playmaker scored an incredible solo goal to score City’s second of the evening, showing his brilliant footwork to weave in and out of multiple challenges before poking the ball into the bottom corner.

When asked about his performance, Cherki said: “My performance is so-so. In the first half, we didn’t find the space, I played s***.

“When I see Enzo wants to change me, I don’t like that, and I need to show them I want to play, I want to score.

“I want to give an assist to Erling. Today I didn’t give a lot of balls to him but next time I want to give him a lot of balls.”

After Cherki had finished speaking, Phillips apologised to those watching the game for Cherki’s choice language.

When pressed further on his first goal, Cherki said: “When Erling didn’t get the ball, It’s my instinct. I’m very happy for the win today. See you next week.”

Erling Haaland then got involved and told the Man City playmaker to speak his mind and admit that he scored two great goals as the choas ensued.

Haaland interrupted: “Just say what you actually mean. You scored two top goals!”

“That is nothing, Cherki said. “I want to give a goal for him.”

The Man City midfielder was asked further about the changes at the club this summer and Maresca coming into the club, replacing Pep Guardiola.
